For some people, coming to Uni is all about getting a degree, for others it is also about the social experience and getting to do things that you wouldn't otherwise get a chance to do. For those of you that want something more out of your University experience, UBU is on hand to provide you with opportunities to make the most out of your time at University and gain some valuable things to fill your C.V. up with!

Below is a list of just some of the areas of the Union you can get involved with and useful links to get you started!

  • Student Council - Find out how you can get elected to sit on Student Council as a Part-Time officer or a student representative.
  • Societies - We have over 180 societies who do everything from Banking and Finance to Hot air Ballooning. You can get involved by becoming a member of a society committee or simply come along and enjoy being a member.
  • Athletic Union - Joining a sports club at University is a fantastic social experience, the A.U. also run a fantastic intramural programme which provides sport for all.
  • RAG - RAG stands for Raise and Give and it is our brilliant fundraising organisation. Each year they raise over £100,000 for local and national charities by organising wacky events and generally having a laugh. You can get involved with anything from organising events to street collecting, being a croupier at the RAG Casino or just coming along to our events.
  • SCA - SCA (Student Community Action) is the Union's volunteering organisation. We have over 30 established student led projects giving hundreds of hours to the community each week. You could get involved with anything from helping homeless, elderly or disabled people to running drugs and alcohol workshops with youth groups.
  • Student Media - We have four student media products here at UBU. From our newspaper, Epigram to our radio station, BURST. Find out how you could get involved!
  • Student Development - The Student Development Unit (SDU) run training courses in everything from Key Skills in things like essay writing to how to assert yourself with confidence and creative thinking. They have accreditation schemes which look great to potential employers and you can also become a trainer yourself and help train students in all the skills they need to get through University!
  • Orbital - Orbital is the society for first year students out of halls. Find out how you can get involved in organising social activities and support or just find out what Orbital are up to this week!
  • PGU - The Postgraduate Union (PGU) provide social activities and representation for all Postgraduate students, click the link to visit their website.
