Environment

The University of Bristol Students' Union is actively engaged in improving its environmental impact. From organizing over 100,000 hours of community volunteering to lobbying the University for improved recycling facilities, the Union wants to raise awareness of how we can reduce our environmental impact and make a positive contribution to improving our environment.

This year the Union is upping it game when it comes to the environment. This year a group has been set up to deliver the Sound Environmental Impact Awards, the Union is aiming to achieve Silver this year, but wants to build on this for future years to achieve a gold standard. The Union is also actively engaged with the University's Sustainability team who provide many of the environmental services for the Union. The future refurbishment of the Union aims to achieve a very high level of environmental design.

There are loads of ways you can get involved with ethical and environmental issues around the Union - join the Ethics and Environment Committee of the Union, become the Ethics or Environment sabbatical for the Union, join one of the societies like BUST (Bristol University Sustainability Team), or People and Planet (for a full range of societies involved with ethical and environmental issues see the hub or volunteer through Student Community Action.

Sustainability Policy

"The University of Bristol Students' Union aims to act in a social, ethical and environmental way in all that it does. The Union has been involved in a number of environmental initiatives over the last few years, it has taken part in the last three years Sound Environmental Impact Awards, was one of the pilot Unions for the Carbon Academy reducing its carbon emissions by over 10% and this year trained over 40 carbon ambassadors ready for community audits as part of the NUS scheme. The Union also has two very active environmental societies, BUST (Bristol University Sustainability Team) and People and Planet. This year the Student Union aims to achieve a Silver award in the Sound Environmental Impact awards, and looks to expand what it does in the ethics and environmental field".
