Student Council (05-12-2011)

On 5th December, the Students' Union held the second Student Council of the academic year in the History of Art Department on Woodland Road.  The meeting was a tremendous success with 110 registered voters with over 125 attending in total - so many in fact that we had to fill the aisles of the venue (hopefully the high attendence wasn't just because of the free pizza and cake!).

  1. Over 13 students were elected to executive committees ranging from the Democracy & Engagement Committee (DEC) to the Welfare Executive.
  2. 4 Student Trustees elected through a cross-campus ballot in October were ratified by the Council.
  3. Motion: To Open Up Student Council - FAILED
  4. Motion: To Recognise the Policy Decisions of the SC@UBU 2011 - PASSED
  5. Motion: To Enhance UBU's Democratic Procedures - PASSED
  6. Motion: For UBU to have Neutrality on Issues of Conscience - FAILED
  7. Motion: For the Access of Essential Medicine Campaign - PASSED
  8. Over 90% of attendees agreed in an indicative vote that VP Activities, Chris Ruff, should lobby UoB to keep the Union building's name from being changed to QRB (Queens Road Building) after the refurbishment is complete.
