If you like sport but don't reckon you're the new Pelé or Flintoff;
if you like sport but don't reckon you could run a marathon;
if you like sport but hate being bossed about by your coach;
then Intramural sport is for YOU!
What is Intramural Sport (IMS)?
The word Intramurals literally translates to 'within walls', and is the name given to all of our internal competitive sports programmes.
This year the intramural sports program is bigger than ever! The wide variety of sports available to all students at Bristol University include 11aside football on the downs, 5aside football, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Badminton and Basketball. Halls of residence, subject and friend teams compete against each other, all year round. With nearly 60 fixtures per week, there's always something to get involved in.
For first years it's a great way to get involved in Hall life, meet new people, and play some new sports, or your favorite sports from school. Even if you aren't playing IMS, many people just enjoy supporting their Hall and friends by cheering them on. Get Involved!
You can also play for your subject department, another great opportunity to meet a new spectrum of people, or you can enter a team of friends and use IMS as an opportunity to have a laugh and stay active.
Football (11 aside and 5 aside), Basketball, Cricket (summer term), Hockey, Netball, Rugby and Badminton are all up for grabs, and fixtures are played weekly. Although it's all about having fun and participating, there are league tables (and bragging rights) at stake, so be sure to avoid mid table mediocrity or relegation dogfights!
Get stuck in with a bunch of mates, but be quick, the leagues are very quickly fully subscribed. Registration forms are available at the Sports Union office, at Fresher's fair or can be downloaded here.
