Local Charities
The money raised through our events such as BARMY, Jailbreak and RAG Week goes towards supporting local charities. Over the last three years, £48,609 was donated to 48 different projects in the Southwest, through our fund with the Quartet Community Foundation. Grant applications were accepted from voluntary and community organisations, under the criteria of children, elderly, medical support and disadvantaged areas.
Below are a few of the charities we have supported:
- Jessie May Trust is a Bristol-based charity that provides a hospice at home service of nursing care and respite for children with a terminal illness.
- Caring At Christmas helps the homeless, both at Christmas and throughout the year.
- Shopmobility South hire out wheelchairs and scooters to help those with mobility problems.

International Charities
One of the highlights of every year is our Kilimanjaro climb, Nepal Trek and Everest Base Camp climb, to raise money for international charities.
The Kilimanjaro Climb raises money for the Hodgkin Scholarship Fund, which is aimed at helping outstanding people of the developing world who, for political or social reasons, cannot pursue a higher education in their home countries. Most often, a Hodgkin Scholar will be a refugee who, for a certain amount of time, will not be allowed to return to their own country.
The fund has to raise the necessary amount of £8,000 to bring a student to Bristol for one year. This covers the scholar's living costs for one year in Bristol, and the university then waives the tuition fees for an international student's postgraduate degree. Hodgkin scholars are usually expected to impart their knowledge to their fellow countrymen after their year in Bristol.
National Charities
Every Saturday of term time we visit a different city in the South of England and carry out a street collection in aid of a variety of national charities. These are a fantastic opportunity for students to escape Bristol for a day and raise huge amounts of money for good causes.
