According to a University update on 20th September,
The University swimming pool will be handed back to the sports department on the 26th October 2012. We anticipate that the swimming pool will be operational from 1st November 2012. Unfortunately, due to ongoing works and delays associated with the main building, the new swimming pool entrance, reception and changing rooms will not be completed until January 2013.
Work to upgrade the lighting, heating and ventilation systems has been completed but as the new changing rooms are not ready and the old ones are decommissioned we will be installing a limited number of temporary changing cubicles along the poolside spectator deck.
This is far from ideal as there will not be any showers and only one toilet available for the pre-Christmas period but many members have indicated that they would want access to the pool, albeit on a limited basis, and we have therefore pushed for the restricted opening (the other option being to remain fully closed until January).
We are grateful to Clifton High School which will allow us to continue use of the School pool during October. The timetable is on the University swimming pool web site opening times page.
Students' Union Vice President Sport & Health Hannah Pollak adds, 'After ongoing discussions between Sport, Exercise and Health and UBU, the opening of the swimming pool has been secured for the end of October 2012. Unforeseen building work originally meant that the pool was not going to be open at all in the first term. Thank you for you patience during the on-going refurbishment and don't hesitate to
email me with any queries you may have.'
