The annual elections for UBU Part-Time Officers (PTOs) are upon us and nominations for the 9 positions are now open!
A Part-time Officer is a part-time, unpaid, student representative who is elected by the student body. PTOs continue their studies alongside the officer role and have no set hours. The term of office for a Part-time Officer is one academic year.
According to Vice President Education Tom Flynn,
“The Part-Time Officers play a vital role in ensuring that the Union is able to represent the needs and views of all of its members. Part-Time Officers joining the executive team this autumn will play a hands-on role in the development and implementation of policy and ensuring that students have the best possible experience here in Bristol.”
The 9 Positions available are:
Black and Minority Ethnic Students Officer
Disabled Students Officer
International Students Officer
LGBT Students Officer
Part-time and Mature Students Officer
Widening Participation Officer
Vice President Welfare and Equality Alessandra Berti adds,
“UBU represents over 16,000 students so it is crucial that we bring on board Part-Time Officers to support in the representation of groups of students who have perhaps previously not received the recognition they deserve. I would strongly recommend as many students as possible get involved because these elections help to provide real democratic legitimacy to the work of UBU; but more importantly, assist in improving the lives of many of our members.”
At 6pm on Wednesday 17th October an informal meeting will be held in LR1, Woodland Road and this will be an opportunity to find out more about the roles of Part-Time Officers as well as a Q+A with the current Full-Time Officers. Everyone is welcome and attendance is highly recommended.
