Candidate for the position of Undergraduate Senate Rep - Medicine & Dentistry
Better Support. Improved Teaching. Clinical Focus.
As a 3rd year I believe I am well placed to represent the views of both pre-clinical and clinical Dentists and Medics to the Senate, and as a mature student I’m keen to provide a platform for the diverse opinions and ideas within the Faculty.
During my time at Bristol I’ve played Medics’ Basketball, spoken for fellow students at meetings with course leaders, and am currently president of the Medics’ Philosophy Society. I’m also active in the University music scene and manage the Hornstars Big Band.
As Senate Representative, I will work hard to improve student support, making sure mentoring schemes deliver on their promises and improving the situation for intercalators, many of whom I know feel isolated and unsupported.
Some students tell me they feel disadvantaged by the lack of teaching in their clinical academy, whilst others are full of praise for theirs. I will campaign for the highest standards across academies so that everyone gets the teaching they deserve.
I’ll also petition for a more clinical focus in 1st-year teaching, hopefully making it more interesting and useful in later years and future practice.
So, vote FINN CATLING for better support, improved teaching and a more integrated curriculum!
