Candidate for the position of Undergraduate Senate Rep - Engineering

Serious about Engineering at Bristol.

As the current third year representative for Engineering Design, I have seen a large gap between students' expectations of the university and what is actually occurring. Through detailed conversations with both students and the teaching staff, I have been able to close this gap and improve the quality of the course.

Being elected as a Senate Rep would give me a platform to demonstrate the importance of increased student-lecturer communication.  With the university opting for whole-scale tuition fee increases, the student voice has to be heard now more than ever.

In terms of Engineering, I would use the position to:

  1. Push for more consistent marking across the board
  2. Get a real explanation of the new moderation system
  3. Seek a noticeably increased level of action based on student feedback about lecturers
  4. Obtain improved access to technical software across the whole university
  5. Make sure that notes from previous years' lectures are available on Blackboard
  6. Get greater coursework feedback to enable better student understanding
  7. Query Engineering buildings’ opening hours
