Even if it makes little actual difference around the precinct, it encourages people to recycle outside of the university, which is a good thing.
I think getting more
I think getting more recycling sorted in halls should be just as large a priority. Look at the tonnage of waste. It is probably very similar for all the halls to one of the large buildings on the precinct.

Good idea, but I fear it's
Good idea, but I fear it's just one of those 'good ideas' that are easy and cheap to implement but don't actually make that much difference, beyond making us all feel a bit greener.
Thus, yes, do it, but don't feel like you've really made a difference once it's done.
