Project updates

26 March 2012

The building foyer closes for refurbishment.

One of the most visible aspects of the refurbishment begins as the foyer and the Anson Rooms close until September.  The foyer will be fully refurbished but the Anson Rooms is just preparatory work for a full refurbishment in 2013.

The coffee bar has moved into Bar 100 - which is working really well.

Open invite Design Workshops take place to help plan the communal spaces in the building.  Twenty students take part and the results are very exciting.   It is hoped the communal spaces, particularly the link areas, will breathe new life into the building and address a shortage of open access space on campus. New plans will be released here soon!

Amidst much anticipation and excitement, Phase 1 of the Students’
Union refurbishment has begun!  The builders are on-site and as you
read this are working hard to make your Students' Union a more modern,
attractive and multi-functional space.

Phase 1 of the refurbishment includes the International Foundation
Programme, University of Bristol pre-arrival courses aimed at 18+
international students for whom English is a foreign language, the
swimming pool and the front entrance of the building, which you may
have noticed if you're already in Bristol and you tried to enter the
building from the front!

Phase 1 also involves work on the design and layout of the Students'
Union spaces in the building and it's looking very exciting!  We will
be publishing the initial designs before the start of term so watch
this space, and we'll be arranging focus groups in mid-October to hear
what you think about the plans.

If you are interested in attending a workshop, or have any
questions or concerns about the refurbishment, please contact our Head
of Development Ben Pilling at ben.pilling@bristol.ac.uk or email ubu-build@bristol.ac.uk
