AGM stands for Annual General Meeting and that is basically what it is. The university gives you the afternoon off each year so that every student has the opportunity to attend. The student body take over the Anson rooms in the Union to have their say on Union policy. It is a massive meeting that requires 401 students to turn up in order for it to be quorate. We need it to be quorate in order to pass constitutional motions, plus the more students that get involved the better.
There are formal procedures that keep the meeting under control and these are explained to you by the Union's Steering Committee who will be there throughout the afternoon. The meeting is chaired by the Chair and Deputy Chair of Student Council. On the day all part time officers should be around to help explain things. They will all be wearing grey-blue hoodies.
Anyone can submit a motion to the AGM, just have a look down this page for more information about how to write a motion.
The Annual General Meeting is your chance to make Union policy! It is the one time in the year when each and every student can have their say and vote on a variety of motions. Normally policy is decided by Student Council by elected part time officers and sabbaticals. At the AGM any full member of the Union can come along, get up and debate the issue, and vote.
