AGM

So it’s all over until next year... or is it?

Well we hope you all had a fun time at the AGM (or at the very least voted down the stuff you didn’t like!) For those of you who didn’t make it - never fear, below you’ll find a handy list of what motions passed or not.

But wait! There are many more ways to have your say on what the Union is up to. If you have something that you think is important to discuss, you can take it to Student Council. Student Council happens once a month and anyone can turn up. Contact chair-ubu@bristol.ac.uk for more info.

What is the AGM?

The Students’ Union represents the student voice and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a chance for all students to have a say about the Union and its policies.

The AGM is a key date in the Union’s calendar where motions submitted by students are debated and voted on by its members. Any student can submit a motion prior to the AGM and all students can vote on the day, motions can only be passed if they receive enough student votes at the AGM.

Your input will play a vital role in how your Union works for and represents students.

How the AGM Works

Throughout the year Union policy is decided by Student Council by elected part time officers and Sabbaticals.

The AGM enables all students to submit motions, generate support, attend the AGM, get up and debate an issue, and vote.

The AGM requires 400 students to attend to achieve quorum, we need it to be quorate in order to pass constitutional motions, plus the more students that get involved the better.

There'll be a video at the start of the AGM to explain how the meeting works. There are formal procedures that keep the meeting under control, these will be explained by the Union’s Steering Committee on the day, whilst the meeting will be chaired by the Chair and Deputy Chair of Student Council. If you have any questions about formal motions then please get in contact with Owen Peachey, UBU President, on ubu-president@bristol.ac.uk

*The University pledges to suspend Undergraduate teaching on the afternoon of Thursday 4th February to allow all students to attend, if your course has incorrectly scheduled teaching then let us know at ubu-education@bristol.ac.uk

The Motions

Here's a list of what passed and what didn't at the AGM. Bear in mind that the text of these motions may have been changed or amended, so if you need to check the final wording, get in touch with Rosemary.Macleod@bristol.ac.uk

The next meeting of Student Council is Thursday 4th March, at 5:15pm in Room MR5D (on the 5th Floor of the Union).
