Volunteering

Escape the student bubble and get involved with one of the most rewarding things you can do while you're in Bristol - it looks great on your CV too!

While you're a student it's great to do something with your free time! There are a number of ways you can get involved whether you want to make a difference to the local community, get work experience related to your degree, improve your employability, learn new skills, meet new people, do some training or just have fun.

4 main ways we can help you volunteer:

  • Get involved in the UBU Volunteering Programme of student-led volunteering opportunitiestes
  • Search through our carefully selected list off opportunities with external organisations
  • Support to set up your own community initiative (training, seeking funding, links with local organisations, project planning, recruitment of volunteers)
  • Use your skills or experience with you society or sports club in schools, youth groups or older people's groups.
  • Join our mailing list to find out about all the latest opportunities

5 easy steps to get you on your way to volunteer:

  1. Sign up to join the Volunteering Mailing list at the bottom of this page!
  2. To actively volunteer on any UBU Volunteering project with children or vulnerable adults, please fill out the sign up form at www.survey.bris.ac.uk/union/volunteersignup where we ask for 2 referees.
  3.  Many projects also require a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. This can take up to 6 weeks to come back, so check whether the activity you do would like to take part in requires this or not. For CRB information, go to the CRB page
  4. Sign up to training at bit.ly/UBUtraining. Everyone must take part in "Volunteer Induction/Child and Adult Protection training - (SCA300)". Other training sessions will be added as they are confirmed.
  5. If you haven't already signed up to the project(s) you're interested in, email the project mailbox. The projects can be found on the Community Volunteering page.
