UBSC | University of Bristol Snowsports Club
The University of Bristol Snowsports Club is the largest uni ski and snowboard club in the country and the biggest society at Bristol, which means the best deals, biggest trips and maddest socials going! Whether you’ve been skiing as long as you’ve been walking or have never even seen snow before; prefer to tear it down an icy race piste at 7am or wearing T shirts down to your knees and getting inverted in the park; prefer a quiet half after lectures or waking up half-naked, dazed and hungover in an unknown location, UBSC is the club for you.
UBSC have weekly socials on Wednesday starting at The Hill where there will be free pizza on offer and the Bongzilla and Shot Ski will no doubt make an (un)welcome appearance. Then we’ll move onto The Bunker, joining all the other big sports clubs for the university-wide social. In Bunker snowsports members will receive free drinks, great chat and a plethora of questionable dance moves from the committee. The socials offer a friendly and welcoming atmosphere whether you want to talk about that 30ft drop you hit on your season, or have never skied and just want to ask a few questions. UBSC also run a series of unique social events each year, including the infamous Valley Rally! Be prepared for outrageous fancy dress, embarrassing challenges and stories made and promptly forgotten. There is a reason UBSC socials have such a reputation.
UBSC train for both freestyle and racing on weekly basis. The training is open to all abilities and we would love to see as many new faces as possible in the first term of this new year. At the start of last year we had loads of new freshers come and join us and they’re now part of a fun and friendly community of around 40 regular riders. Racers train at Gloucester dry slope on a Wednesday, with the freestylers alternating between rail jams on a Tuesday at Tamworth snow dome and kicker sessions on a Tuesday or Wednesday at Gloucester dry slope. If you’re keen to get involved, come and see us freshers’ fair for some more information and to get on the mailing list.
Uni Ski trips are what Unviverstiy life is all about, and UBSC does the best trips around! You've probably heard stories from Val Thorens 2014, where 1200 Bristol students descended for a week of 'snow, apres and debauchery' Sound like your cup of Jagermeister? Then be sure to keep up to date for all the info on our trip this year, keep your diary free from the 27th March - 4th April. The location and price will be announced soon, and you wont be dissapointed!
