General Information
Welcome to the University of Bristol Squash Club!
Anyone who is joining the University for the 2012/13 academic year, and is already county standard (Men's 1st / 2nd, Women's 1st), could you contact the Club Captain directly, so we can plan 2012/13 teams before October.
Similarly if you think you might make the Men's 3rd's/4th's or Women's 2nd's, this would be useful.
We offer the opportunity for friendly games as well as competitive match play, for players of all abilities. If you’re interested in joining the club, see below for contact details of our club captain, or follow us on Facebook. Membership includes all team training sessions, club afternoons and socials, and you can join at the bottom of this page, once logged in.

Team Squash
We currently have 6 teams: 4 Men’s and 2 Women’s. They play in both BUCS and the local Bristol and District leagues, except Women’s 2nd's that only play BUCS. We are always looking for new players; however official team trials are on first Sunday of Fresher’s week, and retrials on the first Sunday after Christmas.

Coaching
Jethro Binns is our club coach, running the sessions on a Monday evening and proving individual coaching for those who want it. He won the BUCS individual championships in 2007 and reached World Number 86 at the peak of his professional career in 2008. His number is 07890882215 and email is jethrobinns@hotmail.co.uk, and he charges £15 for a 45 minute session to squash club members. Jethro is a founder of SquashSkills, a website based around squash coaching, with tips from legends such as Peter Nicol and Nicol David.
Where
The University has a contract for exclusive use of the 4 glass backed courts at the Bristol Grammar School, on Elmdale Road, (entrance is up the stairs on the road directly behind Sainsbury's) and Kingsdown Sports Centre. They are both less than 5 minutes’ walk from the main indoor sports centre on Tyndall Avenue. There are also courts in Stoke Bishop at Wills and Badock Halls, and at Clifton Hill House.
For Bristol and District League matches and club sessions, we use BGS. For BUCS home matches we play at BLTSC, Redland. For general play, booking times are as follows:
· Kingsdown Sports Centre - Monday-Friday 9.00-15.00, Saturday-Sunday 9.00-16.30.
· BGS - Monday-Friday 17.40-21.00.
To book courts, simply go into the sports centre and ask at reception. The booking is free with a sports pass and you can book courts up to one week in advance, but beware they tend to get booked up for the evening sessions quite quickly.

Intramural Leagues

Intramural squash leagues began at Bristol in October 2011, and already over 100 people are involved in over 20 box leagues. We offer intramural box leagues for players of all abilities: you will be put into a group with 4 other players of a similar standard. Every month you will receive an email with the leagues attached, and then you arrange to play the matches in your own time. Results should be written on the leagues on the club noticeboard, or filled in using an online form found at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGxtd0ZvUUJObkN6Y2ZobTRPamxJd3c6MQ
The top and bottom players are then promoted or relegated at the end of the league. Box leagues are not just for members – anyone can join from lecturers to university staff to postgrads. They are £5 to join for the year, but free if you are a member of the club, and there are prizes at the end of the year. The online sign-up sheet is found at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/embeddedform?formkey=dGpseUl3dDA0eG5faHBnaFFWUlc4RlE6MQ
To find out more information, join the “Bristol University Intramural Squash” Facebook page, or email Nick Bone at uob.intramural.squash@gmail.com.
Socials
We have a great calendar throughout the year, with biweekly socials and sports night every Wednesday at The Bunker. SCORE, for all sports clubs is during Fresher’s, at Christmas, and at the end of the year, organised by the Union. Last year's tour saw the squash club go to Portugal, with this year's tour currently being planned.
