The Association of Veterinary Students (AVS) is the body that represents vet students at a national level, and is a division of the BVA. Bristol has two AVS reps who act as a link between Bristol and the central AVS committee:
Craig Fairbairn, Senior AVS rep: firstname.lastname@example.org
Tom Cantor, Junior AVS rep: email@example.com
AVS hosts two main events each year:
This is a packed weekend containing interesting lectures, seminars, practicals with a bar crawl on the Friday night and the sensational AVS Congress ball on the Saturday night, hosted by a different vet school every year. It is also an opportunity to meet the AVS committee at our AGM and take part in our committee elections. To be hosted in Nottingham in 2014, more details closer to the time.

AVS Sports Weekend
A fun filled, banter fuelled weekend which is hosted by a different university each year in November. Sports weekend 2012 was hosted by Glasgow for the first time, who provided vikings, red indians, wallys, gnomes, penguins, noah's arc animals, foxes and hounds, and best of all mimes with an amazing weekend! Liverpool will be hosting this year from 1st-3rd November 2013.

At the heart of Centaur is its commitment to provide help and support to our members. We have a Welfare Rep - Lizzie Gribbin (firstname.lastname@example.org) - who is available to talk if you feel worried about anything, academic or otherwise, that affects your wellbeing. Or if you just need a friendly face to chat to!
There is also a range of support available from the university:
Personal Tutor: This will be a member of the academic staff, maybe one of your lecturers, who is responsible for your general wellbeing at an academic and personal level. Some take great interest in their tutees, others will ask you to contact them if you need them. These should be your first port of call with any issues.
Preclinical Dean: Julie Townsend will be your port of call for any more serious academic or exam-related problems, but is always welcoming and available for a friendly chat if you have any concerns!
Clinical Dean: Rose Grogono-Thomas looks after the clinical students and runs the personal tutor scheme. Always happy to help, Rose's office is located next to the student common room in Langford.
Student Counselling Service: A free and confidential service is provided by qualified and experienced counsellors who have a wealth of expertise coming from a range of training backgrounds. For more information, visit www.bristol.ac.uk/student-counselling/
Vetlife: Written by vets for vets and vet nurses, here you can find information and support spanning a range of common issues such as mental health, professional conduct, employment and debt. There is a student specific section on the website, www.vetlife.org.uk/students , and the Veterinary Benevolent Fund (VBF) also provides an anonymous 24/7 Helpline .
The Clinical Club is run by Suzie Blunt and Emily Bligh. An external speaker comes to talk to us every Thursday about a topic they are involved in, followed by a chance to ask questions. The talks are usually sponsored, which means FREE food and a drink at the bar for everyone that attends!
