The Sanctuary - campaigns volunteers needed
The Sanctuary Pledge (www.sanctuarypledge.org.uk)is an organisation to train citizens across the country to meet with their MPs in the run-up to the election and ask them to sign the Pledge, which calls for an end to the detention of children, amongst other things.
There has been some interest in Bristol, but we don't currently have a CITIZENS for Sanctuary team in Bristol. The organiser is keen to run a training in Bristol to set up a Bristol group for students/faith/justice groups who might be willing to take the Sanctuary Pledge to their prospective parliamentary candidates.
Check our the website and email me if you are interested in getting involed.
Discover - Volunteers needed
We are recruiting volunteers to help with Discover, a collection of activities celebrating research across the University of Bristol. Please see: <http://bristol.ac.uk/cms/cpe/discover2010>
It is a three-day event, run Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 March, in The Mall Bristol in Broadmead and Cabot Circus. We anticipate over 3,000 people attending Discover over the three days, including several hundred school children. The festival is open to the public from 9am until 6 pm and we need people throughout the day.
This is a great opportunity to be involved in a high-profile event and to meet people from across all University departments.
You can help in any number of ways, including guiding Bristol schools around the exhibits on Thursday or Friday, talking about your university experiences, explaining our work to the public, or helping out with the event orgainsation on any of the three days.
We are planning this free event to be interactive, educational and fun and the experience in public engagement and working with children will look great on your CV. You'll be give refreshments throughout the day and you can take home the T-shirt. This is also a great way of meeting people from all sorts of backgrounds including researchers, teachers, pupils, professional communicators and fellow students.
