Membership of UBU
All students of the University of registered programmes are automatically full members of the Students' Union. Your rights to be an automatic member were secured by NUS lobbying during the formation of the 1994 Education Act. If you wish not to be a member of the Students' Union you have the right to withdraw your membership by emailing: ubu-membership@bristol.ac.uk.
Being a full member of the union entitles you to full access to all of the activities, campaigns, events and services of the students' union, as well as the right to vote in our annual elections, referenda and other decision making bodies.
What if I'm not a registered student?
Associate Membership of the Students' Union may be open to you even if you are not a registered student. This is predominantly available to:
-
Union & University staff members
-
University Alumni
-
Partners or dependents of registered students
-
Students studying at other institutions
-
Neighbours of the Union
-
Community users of the union facilities
As we derive our funding, indirectly, from the government via annual block grant awarded by the University we are only allowed to spend that money on the educational benefit of our full members. This means that for additional memberships we charge a annual fee.
For 2011/12 this fee is: £25.00
Associate membership entitles you to:
-
access to UBU's clubs and societies*1
-
make use of the unions facilities and services*2
-
access to events*3
*1 except where the club/society already have 1/3 membership of non full-time members
*2 except advice & representation services
*3 except where those events are specifically members only. Certain restrictions will apply to NUS Card holders only.
