The Union Awards acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding student activity that has taken place during the year through societies, sports clubs, volunteering, fundraising and projects as well as individuals’ contributions.
The event takes place each year in June. Nominations are put forward from the students and staff at the University.
All award winners are decided by a shortlisting committe comprising University staff and UBU staff, and trustees. The 2013 Awards will take place on 20th June, in the Victoria Rooms.

Categories and considerations are:
1. Best Student Group
This award is for the student group that has been the most outstanding in its activities this year.
Priorities:
•Consistent and regular benefit to its members
•Holding well organised events
•Accessibility for new members to participate throughout the year
•Financial security and stability
•Good ambassadors of the University and Students’ Union
2. Best Fundraising Event
This award recognises the outstanding achievements of students who give up their time to raise vital funds for charities or the charitable aims of their own group, often through inventive and entertaining means.
Priorities:
•High student engagement
•Innovative means of raising money
•Amount raised
•Awareness raising of the charity
•Media coverage of the event
3. Voluntary Project of the Year
This award recognises the commitment of a group of students, club or society that has actively engaged its volunteers at a local, national or international level for the benefit of others.
Priorities:
•High student involvement
•Positive impact on the community/beneficiary group.
•Positive feedback from the beneficiary group
•Sustainability and potential continuation or development of the project
4. Campaign of the Year
This award recognises awareness raising activities run by students, predominantly for students.
Priorities:
•Efficacy and widespread awareness of the campaign
•Engaging and informative means of disseminating information
•High student involvement
•Lasting effects and potential for development
5. Media Product of Year
This award recognises the role that all forms of media play in communicating with and informing students. This could be a departmental or society publication, a major student media product or other means of reaching and informing students.

•High circulation
•A range of contributors and opportunities to contribute
•Informative and high quality content
•Wide-ranging appeal
6. Innovation and Impact Award
This award celebrates innovation and enterprising activities that result in positive outcomes for the student community and/or wider community. Activities should be financially self-sustaining whilst also demonstrating a clear social benefit.
Priorities:
•Innovative approach
•Clear positive outcomes that reach beyond that of the student participants
•A sustainable model
•An approach that could potentially be replicated
7. Outstanding contribution to Bristol life
This award recognises the enormous contribution that students make in Bristol. The award could go to a student who has developed a community-based project or been involved in many community activities. This award will be voted on by readers of the Bristol Evening Post.

•Positive engagement beyond the University community
•Personal achievement
•Positive feedback from people in Bristol and/or the media
8. International Engagement Award
This award acknowledges an individual or group that has engaged with and brought together students of various nationalities or promoted inter-cultural activities.

•High engagement of international students
•Inter-cultural exchange
•Direct benefit to international students
•Involvement of ‘home’ and ‘international’ students
9. Outstanding Contribution to Student Media
This award recognises the achievements of an individual who has made a significant contribution to student media online, in print, on screen or radio.
Priorities
•Proven journalistic ability
•Contributing to increased circulation
•Improving quality of student media
•Enthusing and engaging others in student media
10. Outstanding Contribution by a Student Representative
This award celebrates the work of an individual student who has gone beyond the day to day role of representing their peers. Through innovation, dedication and passion these students will have engaged with a broad range of their peers and increased the credibility of the wider rep community.

•Engagement with UBU and UoB rep events
•Inventive approach to promotion of the representative role
11. Outstanding Dedication by a University of Bristol Staff Member
This award celebrates the diverse nature of staff dedication at the University of Bristol. A nominee may be a personal tutor, member of a Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC), teaching or support staff member.
Priorities:
•Considerable commitment to Univeristy of Bristol students above and beyond expectations
•Innovative approach to role
•Transformed student life at Univeristy of Bristol
•Feedback from students who have benefited from his/her involvement
12. UBU Staff Member of the Year
This award recognises the support that the Students’ Union staff members provide to
students to enable them to make the most of their time at university.

•Positive and innovative approach to engaging with students
•Enabling students to achieve
13. UBU Student Staff Member of the Year
This award recognises the work of a student staff member working at UBU to help students make the most of their experiences at the Union.
